About Coaching

“If we do not change direction, we are liable to end up where we are headed.”  Confucius

What is Coaching?

Coaching is the short-term process of helping a client produce extraordinary long-term results in his or her life, career, business, and organization.  At Arudia, we tailor our coaching to each client’s needs and seek to further develop natural strengths so clients can move to the next level.  We help clients focus on solutions and rather than solely on problems.

The coaching process often involves helping attorneys and executives to:

  1.   Do their best thinking,

  2.   Put that thinking into action, and

  3.   Help them to get the best thinking and action from colleagues and subordinates.

Why Coaching?

Coaching is not therapy.  Arudia clients are high-functioning individuals who benefit from the support and focused training Arudia offers.  Coaches are an objective, confidential, and, therefore, a trusted resource.

Organizations Hire Coaches Because:

Coaching improves the performance of an organization by improving individual performance through setting and achieving individual goals.  Organizations generally hire coaches as part of their leadership development efforts and to support individuals in learning specific skills and competencies.  For example, individuals may have participated in a 360-Degree Feedback or an annual performance review and need support in understanding what is expected of them and in developing new skills.  A coach can help them in both regards.

Individuals Hire Coaches Directly Because:

Working on both professional and personal goals such as enhancing skills for professional development, career search, dealing with life balance and stress, and other personal goals can be done more efficiently and with better results with the support a coach can provide.

How Do We Structure Our Coaching?

Typically, the client, the client’s manager (if we are hired by the organization), and the coach meet (in person or by telephone) to set the desired coaching goals.  Arudia then drafts a short coaching contract outlining the goals, some approaches to be used, and the length of engagement.

Before the first formal coaching session, we generally have the client (i) take agreed upon assessments and (ii) fill out an information form.  We work with the client (in person or over the telephone) to reach their coaching goals every 7-10 days over a defined period of time. Typically coaching sessions last from 30 minutes to two hours.

What Happens During A Coaching Session?

By listening to what matters to clients, asking them questions, and reflecting what they have said, we help clients do their best thinking so they can:

  1.   Prioritize commitments

  2.   Clarify goals

  3.   Develop new perspectives

  4.   Come up with workable options

  5.   Develop strategies to reach goals

  6.   Stay on track for achieving goals.
